BLUE Institute Excelerator celebrates startups

BLUE Institute Excelerator to celebrate its second cohort of startups (BX2) on June 10th, 2022 at its virtual Demo Day event with warm welcome from Congressman Bill Keating.

BLUE Institute, Inc is a non-profit 501(c)3 dedicated to education, culture, community engagement, and entrepreneurship for climate impact innovations and initiatives. A keystone program of the BLUE Institute is the virtual BLUE Excelerator.

“I am excited to see that the BLUE Excelerator is bringing companies from around the world together to showcase their innovative solutions to tackle the issues facing our oceans and our planet,” said Congressman Bill Keating. “Southeastern Massachusetts is already a leader in the Blue Economy, and BLUE’s leadership in mentoring and growing these companies ensures both continued growth for our region and long-term solutions that will make an impact worldwide.”

The 12-week accelerator program admits early-stage startup founders working on solutions to pressing climate challenges and the ocean economy. Throughout the program founders develop their business plan, create prototype and pilot roadmaps, and achieve milestones critical to their company’s growth. Each week includes subject matter expert presentations in topics tailored to the needs of the cohort. Throughout the duration of the program startups are paired with dedicated mentors. The program is administered virtually, enabling an international cohort of companies and mentors.

BX2, the second cohort to graduate the BLUE Excelerator program was comprised of 9 startups from 5 countries: USA, Canada, Thailand, Netherlands, and Ireland. Each startup founder was paired with two mentors throughout the program and were provided with training on branding, assumption and risk resolution, crafting a pitch deck and presentation, project and product management basics, navigating the water regulation landscape, funding sources, customer journey mapping, and sales techniques. The program culminates in the virtual Demo Day.

Demo Day is a two-hour virtual conference for the startups to showcase their technology and network with industry and investment professionals. Founders will each present for 5 minutes followed by individual breakout rooms for Demo Day attendees to get to know each company in more detail. The BX2 startups’ next steps include developing partnerships for corporate collaboration, launching pilot programs, and seeking investment funding.
With the help of world class volunteer mentors and subject matter expert presenters, the program is able to support startups from around the world working to develop revolutionary companies that will impact the climate trajectory of our planet. These founders face daunting tasks to commercialize their ideas. It is thanks to the devoted volunteers that make this program possible and a great success.
