IT Senior System Administrator: Convention Data Services

Responsible for the day-to-day operation and integrity of the entire corporate infrastructure. Plans, coordinates, implements and supports the LAN/WAN hardware, software and Internet/Intranet and cloud services on both AWS and Azure. Researches technical support problems and issues by spotting re-occurring issues and devising a solution to prevent them. Administer move, add and change functions for all supported IS services. Support server, desktop, notebook, thin client, routers, firewalls, and any other platforms deployed by CDS. Assists CTO in providing strategic direction for hardware, software and cloud services consistent with the organization’s goals in serving both our internal customers and corporate clients. Researches vendor products, recommends purchase, development or enhancement of network hardware, software and telecommunications. Formulates a budget based upon researched solutions and the needs of the business. Coordinates systems training for users and systems administrators. Coordinates efforts with vendors for upgrades and network maintenance.


The successful candidate will provide support and direction in network, hardware, and software consistent with the organization’s goals in serving our internal customers.  The candidate will support our in-house and COLO systems ensuring all are consistent with the latest technology and revision levels. The candidate will also be capable of delegating to a small team of IT professionals.

  •  Maintain our on prem and cloud systems to ensure all are healthy and have the latest updates, patches, bug fixes, service packs and revision levels.
  • Manages our on-prem PBX (Mitel).
  • Provide administration, security and support of the LAN/WAN, Internet/VPN, Firewall (Fortinet),  Office 365 Services, on-prem application servers, file/print services, and AWS and Azure PaaS, SaaS, IaaS cloud services.
  • Manage software license activities to ensure compliance with vendor agreements, copyright laws and other regulations.
  • Research vendor products and recommends purchase, development or enhancement of network hardware, software, telecom and cloud services.
  • Coordinates training for users and systems administrators.
  • Manages vendor and Manages Service Provider relationships and performance.
  • Follow-up with vendor communications, procurement, installations, repairs and upgrades when needed.
  • Manages cyber security and annual audits including PCI compliance.
  • Provide assistance to I.T. personnel and other personnel as needed. Function as subject matter expert and knowledge leader for the I.T. Dept.
  • Provides technical support to end users in a help desk capacity.
  • Aggressively pursues process improvements.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by CTO.
  • Support our remote production data center (Co-Lo) in Marlborough, MA and customer facing applications.

Technical knowledge required:

  • TCP/IP Networking and sub-netting, network security, and network administration skills
  • Strong background in Windows network management including Active Directory, group policies, DFS, DNS, DHCP, NPS, RDS, RRAS, and Certificates
  • Administration of all Office 363 E3 Services (SharePoint, Exchange, Teams, Stream, One Drive, DirSync, etc.)
  • PowerShell scripting, remoting, tool making and managing of headless servers with no GUI or Desktop Experience.
  • Strong background in administering IIS server farms and MS SQL HA Clusters.
  • Experience managing disaster recovery and business continuity. Veeam Availability Suite experience preferred.
  • Experience managing a highly virtualized infrastructure (Hyper-V)
  • Experience with Firewalls, specifically Fortinet, Intrusion Prevention Systems, Web Application Firewalls, Data Leak Prevention Systems, Reverse Proxies and SSL/TLS inspection.
  • Experience with VPN and remote network technologies and protocols such as IPSec/L2TP, SSTP and SSL-VPNs.
  • Experience in configuring, installing and maintaining firewalls, routers, switches and servers within a large corporate infrastructure. Cisco, HP Procurve/Aruba and Fortinet.
  • Experience working with database systems such as SQL Server.

  • Management of remote monitoring and notification software.
  • Available for 24×7 on-call support as required.
  • Current Microsoft MCSE certification desired.

Education and Experience:

This position typically requires a BS degree and at least 4 years related work experience. 10+ years of relevant work experience to be considered in lieu of degree. Previous system administrator experience is required, as is a demonstrated passion for I.T. and learning new technologies.
