Dec 7: First Friday – Digital Forensics

Digital Forensics & the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is a crime scene investigative unit that was established in 1935 to assist local Cape departments. For this First Friday, members of the newly formed Cape Cod Computer Crime Unit will discuss the field of digital forensics.

Presenters include John R. Szucs, First Assistant Criminal Identification Officer for the BCI, Kevin A. Connolly, Detective Barnstable Police Department and Matt Smith, BCI Criminal Identification Officer. They will provide an explanation of the data storage process in order to set the groundwork for understanding the workflow needed to recover data in a forensically sound manner. Current trends and challenges in the analysis of digital data will be examined, as well as a case study of a recent investigation on Cape Cod.
