Cape Cod Cranberry Growers Association- Technology and the Cranberry Industry on Cape Cod and SE Massachusetts

November 1, 2013 @ 7:30 am - 9:00 am

Cranberries, a staple on the Thanksgiving dinner menu, is a major industry in southeastern Massachusetts and also one which is increasingly using technology to improve yields, lower costs, aid environmental conditions, and remain competitive. Dawn Gates-Allen, the communications manager of the 100+ year-old Cape Cod Cranberry Growers Association joins the Cape Cod Technology Council on Friday, November 1 to discuss the growing use of technology from computerized irrigation to remote sensors to monitor bogs to wireless and internet applications which today’s farmer relies upon for success. Dawn herself is a fourth-generation cranberry farmer and employs technology widely on her bogs in Middleboro and Freetown.

The breakfast, a monthly Council event on the first Friday (except holiday weekends), is held at the Hyannis Golf Club on Route 132 off exit 6 of Route 6 in Hyannis beginning at 7:30 a.m. The meeting includes a hot breakfast, networking opportunities, and concludes by 9:15 a.m.
