Stephanie Murphy — Protecting Our Coast: How Do We Manage Our Plastic Choices?

Join WHOI Sea Grant’s Stephanie Murphy on September 11th as she explores the growing challenge of plastic pollution and the work underway to reduce the amount of debris reaching our coast and ocean.
Stephanie will share how she became involved, and eventually obsessed, with reducing plastic, provide perspective on the scale of the problem, and explore how WHOI Sea Grant approaches marine debris through research, education, partnerships, and community-based projects. From boat shrink wrap recycling and alternatives to reducing single-use plastics in Cape Cod’s tourism industry to the development of the Cape Cod Trash Tote, Stephanie will highlight efforts already underway and discuss the choices individuals, businesses, and communities can make to be part of the solution.
