The Cape Cod Astronomical Society is a group of amateur astronomers who enjoy looking at the cosmos and teaching others about the craft.

Dr. Lynch will cover the attractiveness of astronomy to the public, both as a hobby and a STEM outreach tool and the CCAS’ main activity areas: star parties, lectures, K-12 education, and public outreach.
Dr. James Lynch obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1978. He then worked at the Applied Research Laboratories of the University of Texas at Austin from 1978 to 1981, after which he joined the scientific staff at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). He worked at WHOI until 2016, retiring as a Senior Scientist Emeritus. His research specialty areas are ocean acoustics and acoustical oceanography. He is current Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America and President of the Cape Cod Astronomical Society.
