April 2022 EarthTech Q&A: The Electric Vehicle Experience

April 22 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

The electric vehicle experience

During last year’s EarthTech Month, Liz Argo gave us a primer on electric vehicles. Terry Gallagher was so inspired he purchased a VW ID4 that weekend. One year later, he shares his experience of EV ownership.

If you are in the market for a new car, you should strongly consider going electric. Help save the planet, and save money to boot! Both the cars and the charging network have come a long way in recent years, and are now fully ready for the mainstream. The U.S. has ambitious goals for electric vehicles, and practically all major manufacturers – and several interesting newcomers – have introduced new models. Variety and availability will certainly increase over the next several years. The only downside right now is, these cars are almost impossible to get. In many cases, wait times are 1-2 years. In this talk, Terry will draw on his one year of EV ownership, including a winter road trip to Southern California and back.

Terry Gallagher spent summer vacations on Cape Cod throughout the 80s and 90s, and moved here full time at the end of the 90s. He has been “working from home” since that time, translating Japanese documents for clients in the financial and government sectors. Previously, he worked as a journalist in New York, Japan, and Germany, for Dow Jones and Reuters. Originally from New York, he has a BA in history from Brown University. He is an elected member of the Eastham Democratic Town Committee, and is now in his second two-year term as the Eastham delegate to the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates.
